Spring Cleaning Time...

Yes, it's that time of year...when normally sane women suddenly go berserk cleaning their homes.
I don't know why we do it, we just do.
I am not the worlds greatest housekeeper, but even I get the Spring Cleaning bug!
Today I have scrubbed down the bathrooms and did a final wipe down of them with alcohol. (Just a personal quirk there, folks)
I am dusting shelves and the books to go on said shelves.
I know this will stay with me for about 2 weeks, so I am getting as much done as possible!
I am absoluting itching to get at the yard and set it up the way I want to, but I must do the inside first!
Cleaning supplies are vinegar (that I am currently woefully short of...add to shopping list!), baking soda, dish soap and alcohol, plus a wee bit of olive oil and some lemon juice.
Yes, you can clean almost everything with those!
I do want some Comet or Bon Ami to get some really grubby stuff done this weekend, though. (Add to shopping list...list getting longer!)
So many things to do...never enough time, energy or supplies to accomplish them all, it seems, but I'll give it a hell of a try!

Last night, the Boy fixed dinner. I assigned him the task as he has never cooked for the whole family since I have been here. I wanted to see how he did, and, he had criticize my cooking a couple of times, so I wanted to show him that it is not that easy to plan, prepare and serve a meal for four!
I am happy to say that he did quite well! He made chicken tacos with minimal supervision and they were quite good!
Tonight is the Girl's turn. I hope she has been planning---at least in her head!---and can accomplish the task as well.
I have more laundry to hang up on this sun-shiny Spring day and lots more to get done!
Hope all your Spring cleaning chores get done quick and with as little trouble as possible!

  1. Spring is the only time I can say I really ENJOY cleaning. I do what has to be done week to week, and have been known to lurch into turbo-cleaning mode when faced with company on short notice. But this is the time of year I actually WANT to clean. Open windows, scrub said window frames and glass, deep clean bathrooms and dust all those hard to reach places.

I think that's great you're letting Boy and Girl take the reins in the kitchen once in a while. I did that with my two when they were that age well as make them responsible for their OWN laundry. They each had a designated laundry day and if they didn't do it, they had to wait a week. If they started it on their day, they had to FINISH it on their day ...wash/dry/fold/put away. No exceptions. It taught them valuable life skills AND a little appreciation for good ol' Mom! LOL

  2. Hmmmm... I like the sound of that. Wouldn't hurt the youngest (and last one at home) to prepare dinner. Or hubby for that matter.

  3. Oh, I am finding more ways to shove these babies off the branch a bit so they can fly on their own when the time comes! I have been teaching the Girl to bake bread from scratch and she is catching on pretty well! I have TRIED to teach them both to put up tools when they are done with them...but first I think I have to teach the fella to do that! I like the laundry thing you did with yours. Will start that this week, I think! Already gave them the job of cleaning their own bathroom DAILY. If that bathroom is not clean when they leave for school, they get up a half hour earlier the next morning so they will have time to clean it.

  4. Well, we all have points. Great work though sharing this through blogging. Spring cleaning...Daniel
